St George’s Day is celebrated on 23rd April as a feast day. Christians celebrate this festival in the church. This day is celebrated only in memory of George but we know he was not an Englishman. However, many Anglophone countries celebrate this day, e.g. Bulgaria, England, Greece, Georgia Portugal, and the United Kingdom.
Thousands and millions of people enjoyed the legend of St. George on the streets of Derby. He has a wonderful and interesting story with a dragon that inspires people a lot. Market Palace was chosen to portray the story in character where people joined their families in a fun feast.
Saint George believed in the Christian faith, was beheaded
George who is the main character of the story is a Christian soldier. At first, he enlisted in the Roman army. He quickly became Emperor Diocletian’s bodyguard. Diocletian believed in the Latin Roman faith and encouraged Christians to worship it. When Christian people refused to worship the Roman gods, he would burn churches and imprison priests.
He was a firm believer in the Christian faith and protested against the atrocities. He worked hard for the religion of Christians. The only disgrace in his hands was the emperor who imprisoned him. He was beheaded on 23 April, his head was enshrined in a church in Rome, and his body was buried but his zeal for his faith spread like wildfire throughout Europe.
The story of brave Saint George slaying the dragon
The interesting story begins with George slaying a dragon, a dragon to be a symbol of Satan. A dragon that lived near the well sprang forth from its mouth and spread deadly disease. He saves a Silene princess from a dragon. The people of Silene were dying of hunger and thirst because a dragon was living near the well, but no one dared to confront the dragon and kill it. Thousands of sacrifices had to be made to fetch the water, which led to the next turn of the Silene Princess.
He strongly believed in the Christian faith and decided to kill the dragon by believing in his god. He bravely slays the dragon and rescues the Princess of Silene. The dragon guarded the well and did not allow people to drink water, when George killed the dragon, people had easy access to the water.
